The EMF aims to ensure a professional level of events fundraising across the charitable
sector, primarily through a private, web based forum offering support, best practice
and guidance to our members whilst maintaining privacy and integrity. We also aim
to raise the profile of events based fundraising within the sector and beyond, through
proactive awareness raising and regular meetings.
We are an informal group of people directly involved in charity fundraising through
events. We meet 6 times a year to discuss a topic of interest to our members. The
minutes of these meetings are available on our website. All member charities pay
a fee of £10 per annum to cover the cost of meeting expenses (including hire of
rooms and booking speakers) and development of the group.
This forum has been established to provide the frank and private exchange of information,
advice and experience between those responsible for the organisation and management
of fundraising events at various charities.
The aim of the forum is to formulate and promote clear guidelines for the effective
marketing and administration of charity fundraising events. To unite members by
community of purpose and message, without compromising each charity’s individuality,
allowing committee members (as representatives of the EMF) to speak with authority
to bodies such as the Charity Commission, Inland Revenue, IOF and the press.
Members are asked to understand, respect and comply with the EMF’s Privacy Policy
which states that any communications between members must remain in the private
domain and can not be shared with external audiences. Any opinions or statements
made by individual members represent the view of that individual and not the charity
or the EMF as a whole unless stated by a member of the Committee.
The EMF strives to identify changes and developments, both within the charity sector
and externally, which impact on charity fundraising events. To agree, where appropriate,
the best ways to react to or exploit such trends and share information with members.
We actively encourage and work alongside other organisations, such as the IOF and
the Charity Commission to research, report and recommend, within the area of charity
fundraising event.

There are currently eight EMF Committee members. These roles are voluntary and non-remunerative
and the purpose of the Committee is to ensure that EMF’s mission statement is fulfilled
to the best of their ability. The Committee control the content of the web site
and forum, organise regular meetings, book speakers, take and distributes meeting
minutes, forwards to the group any relevant event based information and acts as
spokespeople for the group.
Each committee member is elected at the AGM for a maximum of three years and can
be re-elected for a further three years after standing down for a year. The roles
of the committee are not agreed by vote at the AGM, this is done at the first committee
meeting. A minimum of four weeks notice will be given for the AGM along with election
procedures.
All meetings will be posted on the website and an e-mail reminder will be sent.
Committee members will continue to carry out their roles until they feel they are
unable to fulfil their duties any longer.
It is possible for Committee members to be voted off by others on the Committee
if necessary. When new members are required, then the Committee Chair will send
a communication to the EMF and ask people to put themselves forward. The current
committee members will then discuss and select whom to invite onto the committee.
